Tasting
Notes: This handcrafted Cabernet exhibits
strong flavors of its mountain origins. Deep, rich fruit flavors and
multiple layers of spice are grounded by an essence of minerals and
earth. A well-balanced wine, its complex finish hints of cocoa and dusty
soil. An outstanding example of the Mount Veeder Appellation's potential,
the wine easily ranks among the Napa Valley's most enjoyable Cabs. (Date
tasted: 03/03/2000)
Profile:
Situated in the Napa Valley's Mount Veeder Appellation, this estate
joins the talents of the Rubissow and Sargent families. While Tony Sargent,
the creative talent, heads up the winemaking team, the Rubissow family
manages the vineyards and the national marketing campaign. Mount Veeder's
clay and shale, sloped terrain, combine with a climate of morning fog,
the perfect conditions for the producing the bold, Bordeaux-style reds
for which the winery is known. Rubissow-Sargent's dedication to natural
farming practices, (no synthetic pesticides are used,) in combination
with their urban winemaking and tasting facilities in downtown Berkeley,
make this family operation a uniquely Californian venture.
