Tasting
Notes: We've been tasting Windward's
Burgundy-like pinot since 1993. We've learned to love the 1996
vintage for its finely fruit-forward and well-balanced character.
Due to their early success, proprietors Marc Goldberg and Maggie
D'Ambrosia have decided to plant more acreage. Obviously, we're
not alone in our opinion that this is one of the best wine
values on the market today. (Date tasted: 03/03/00)
Profile:
Windward Vineyard founders and proprietors Marc Goldberg and Maggie
D'Ambrosia have a passion. Their passion is for making pinot noir
to rival that of France's Burgundy region. And their ten-acre
vineyard, with its rocky, limestone soil, offers a perfect microclimate
to grow world class Pinot. Since their first vintage in 1993,
Goldburg and D'Ambrosia
have made many exciting changes in their efforts to put Paso Robles
Pinot Noir on the map. Thanks to their early success, they've
begun planting more acreage. In addition, the pair have confirmed
their commitment to the monopole way of winemaking by integrating
the entire process under one roof, beginning with the 1998 vintage.
