Tasting
Notes: This tawny-hued wine offers typical
Cab Franc aromas of pine needles and vanilla. Well-balanced, its flavors
lean toward tart fruits like cranberries and pie cherries. A rather
elegant, medium-bodied style, the wine is marred by heavy tannins, weighty
on the tongue and leading to an unpleasantly puckering finish. (Date
tasted 8/17/01)
Profile:
It was while completing graduate studies in political science at
the University of California Santa Barbara that Daniel Gehrs got
his first taste of the wine business. Working with Paul Masson in
the Saritoga area, Gehrs honed his craft. Along the way he worked
as a winemaker for such highly regarded operations as Elliston and
Zaca Mesa. Founded in 1991, Gehrs' namesake winery has turned many
heads for its Loire styles. After 25 years in the business, Daniel
Gehrs' wines also include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and some very exciting
Syrahs from Paso Robles fruit.
