Tasting
Notes: Good extraction and nice
concentration of fruit. The wine delivers a good mouthful.
Both varietals are in perfect harmony, offering a range of
flavors from the robust Cabernet to the seductive Syrah. Medium-body
and even-finish characteristics complete the seduction. Lighter
meats and medium cheeses please. (Date tasted 8/9/02)
Profile:
Gary Eberle, sometimes referred to as "Padre Syrah"
from his literally bringing in clippings from the teaching
vineyard at UC Davis, is credited for many other innovations.
The winery makes well-crafted wines that have gained
in popularity since the release of the 1979 Cabernet.
In this bottle Gary has assembled in equal quantity
two of his favorite varietals. However, many other varietals
and blends are produced here at the tightly controlled
contract and estate vineyards. Usually they are "nothing
wrong with them wines" with a good price.
