Tasting
Notes: A very well-made wine, perhaps it
was too well made. With a nose like popcorn butter and a fat, oily mouthfeel,
this is a wine that suffers from too much attention. All of the elements
of Chardonnay making are in place, but there's no evidence of fruit
left in the bottle. If you love that malolactic flavor, you'll really
relate to this Chard, but if you're looking for a lean, fruity style,
steer clear of this over-worked wine. (Date tasted 01/28/01)
Profile:
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this small, family-run
winery's aim is to preserve an American cultural resource in a productive
way. By producing 3,000 handcrafted cases of wine each year, Greenvale
has managed to see a dream of preserving U.S. history to its final
stages, as the owners complete preservation of their Victorian stable-turned-tasting
room. In addition to Chardonnay, made from 100 percent Rhode Island
fruit, the winery produces Cabernet Franc, Vidal Blanc and a white
blend.
