Tasting
Notes: Not your typical Viognier, the nose
hints more of mushrooms than perfume. Full-bodied in style, it weighs
a little heavy on the palate. Although pleasant floral elements are
present, the wine's high alcohol content overwhelms a smooth finish.
Undeniably a well-made wine, it offers complexity, marred only by the
force of 14.9 percent alcohol. (Date tasted 01/28/01)
Profile:
With a passion for Hermitage and Côte Rotie, San Francisco attorney
Jim Paras founded Jade Mountain in 1984. Set high on Napa's Mount
Veeder's hillside, the winery's Rhône varietals and Merlot vines
thrive. The Chalone Group, well-known for Echelon, Carmenet and Edna
Valley Vineyard, has been distributing Jade Mountain wine since 1992
and since 2000 also owns it.
