Tasting
Notes: Straw
gold in color, this is a wine with ladylike elegance from appearance
to finish. Although rather faint, its nose hints at a mineral quality
that carries through its subtle flavors. Medium in body for such an
old and well-oaked wine, this Chard lingers on the palate with buttery
softness. (Date tasted 11/5/00)
Profile:
This Northern California operation set its goal to make wines "in
the Grand European Tradition." A California pioneer, Kalin was one
of the first in the region to employ old-world techniques like sur
lie aging of white wines. Kalin's philosophy is to produce "investment
grade" wines, bottle-aged several years before release with the promise
of aging potential of at least a decade.
