Tasting
Notes: To create an elegant example of California
Pinot Noir, winemaker Merry Edwards has taken some of the Russian River
Valley's finest fruit and delivered it to her ever-expanding fan base
in the form of a rich, supple, altogether complete wine. Strawberry
aromas lead the way to bright fruit flavors and velvet tannins. Although
oak and fruit overwhelm the essence of terroir in that robust, Californian
style, this wine can easily be regarded as one of the Golden State's
most refined Pinots. (Date tasted 07/09/01)
Profile:
Merry Edwards, a renowned Sonoma County vintner with a passion for
Russian River Pinot Noir, launched Meredith Vineyard Estate/Merry
Edwards Wines in 1997 in partnership with Chalone and Ravenswood
founder Bill Bourke. Although the winery relies on fruit from some
of the Russian River's most outstanding growers, including Bob Pellegrini
and his Olivet Lane Vineyard, it has always been Edwards' dream to
own her own vineyard. With the purchase of Meredith Vineyard, Edwards'
dream has become a reality, affording her the opportunity to evolve
into one of California's top Pinot Noir producers, a distinction
toward which she is already well on her way.
