Tasting
Notes: This
Old World classic conjures up cravings for focaccia and
antipasto. Built on a backbone of fine tannins, it is a
wine ready for the Italian table but also worthy of a few
more years of cellar aging. With subtle fruit, harmonious
balance and dry finish, it is a fine example of the Italian
winemaking tradition. (Date tasted: 6/10/00)
Profile: When he purchased Monsanto in 1961, Fabrizio
Bianchi became one of the pioneers in the modern revolution
of Chianti making. Fighting to eliminate white grapes from
the uvaggio and obtain permission to use stainless steel for fermentation,
Bianchi helped bring the Chianti tradition to a new age.
Experimenting with international grape varieties like Chardonnay
and Merlot, Bianchi is viewed as one of Chianti's finest
innovators and artists.
