Simonsig Winery ProfileSimonsig South Africa Wines Tasting Notes and Reviews
In a fertile valley near Stellenbosch, the Malan family has been producing handcrafted wines since the 1950s. Instrumental in creating the Stellenbosch Wine Route in the 1970s and helping to build up the region as South Africa's best known wine destination, the Malans
are interested in demonstrating their region's suitability for both
red and white varietals. Toward this end, Simonsig produces 18 varieties
including Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer
and Bukettraube.

Tasting
Notes: A lean nose of grapefruit and minerals gives way to a lush mouthfeel.
Surprisingly weighty on the tongue, the wine's tropical fruit flavors
are overshadowed by the flavors of its winemaking components. Although
this Sauvignon Blanc has many pleasurable notes, the true character
of its fruit is masked by the winemaking process. (Date tasted: 10/26/01)
