Tasting
Notes: This red meritage Bordeaux
was blended and lightly filtered before bottling and spent
14 months in Allier, Trocais and Nevers oak. Simple, deep
black fruit flavors with a hint of spice and vanilla aroma
make it a surprisingly good blend from the Lone Star State
especially
at that price. (Date tasted 5/17/02.)
Profile:
There's lots of history
here. Established in 1988, Sister Creek Vineyards is located
in the heart of the Texas Hill Country in Sisterdale. They
make traditional French wines (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet
Sauvignon, and Merlot) in classical Bordeaux and Burgundy
styles. They produce an Italian-style Muscat Canelli. An 1885
cotton gin has been restored to house the winery. We have
been following the winery since they opened and are happy
to see that partners Danny Hernandez and Vernon Friesnhahn
have been consistent in their journey. We took a leap of faith
in recommending them in the early 1990s and are still comfortable
with that choice. We look forward to drinking more easy wines
from the jovial and relaxed winemaker.
