Tasting
Notes: A medium-full bodied style, this food-friendly
Cab Franc smacks of cocoa, cranberries and vanilla. Showing extremely
well at such a young age, we'd hazard a guess that this 1999 has hit
its prime. Lacking in flavor at the front of palate, the wine comes
on full-force toward the finish with a sensory parade evolving from
raspberries and oak to lingering vanilla.(Date tasted 8/17/01)
Profile:
Set on the banks of Seneca Lake, Standing Stones has felt great success
as one of the Finger Lakes' finest wineries, thanks in large part
to prime vineyards in a microclimate controlled by the lake effect.
A hands-on winery, this 6,500-case operation set a new quality standard
in the Finger Lakes with the introduction of Pinnacle, a New York
rendition of the classic Bordeaux blend. In addition to growing the
Bordeaux varietals, Standing Stone is known for Chardonnay and crisp,
Alsatian-style whites.
