Tasting
Notes: With
15% Petite Syrah thrown into the mix, Titus' Redwood Valley Zin represents
a kinder, gentler style of Zinfandel. Mossy and earthy on the nose,
the wine exhibits subdued flavors of damp soil and dark fruits. More
elegant than what we've come to expect from American Zinfandel, the
wine is almost too understated. Nevertheless, with a backbone of nicely
balanced acid and vanilla custard finish, this makes for one of the
most approachable Zins we've recently encountered. (Date tasted 10/26/01)
Profile:
Although the vision for the winery named Titus began in 1967 when
Lee and Ruth Titus acquired their first Napa Valley vineyard, it
took more than twenty more years of purchasing parcels and nurturing
vines before the Titus dream became a reality. It is a family operation
from start to finish, with their son Phillip making the wine and
Eric managing the vineyards. Since 1990, when Titus produced its
first Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery has grown to 6,000 cases annually
with sights set on expanding to about 10,000 over the next 5 years.
