Tasting
Notes: This deep ruby wine has that wonderfully
sweet, fat nose so typical of its varietal. A full-bodied, untamed wine,
its flavors hint of spice, wild strawberries and dried cherries. A little
too hot, its 14.5 percent alcohol content somewhat mars the wine's flavor
impact. Nevertheless this is a juicy, fun wine, true to its Italian
varietal, but at the same time, thoroughly Californian. (Date tasted

Profile:
One of the Central Coast's tiniest wineries, Vandale produces a mere
300 cases of Sangiovese each year. (However, they do have plans to
grow on a modest scale, the 2000 vintage will be up to 400.) A talented
viticulturalist, Bruce Vandale's grapes are sought by many of the
Santa Ynez region's finest wineries. Happy news for both Sangiovese
makers and Sangiovese fans, Vandale has recently expanded his vineyards
by five more acres. After tasting Vandale's wines, anyone hoping
to get their hands on this vineyard's surplus fruit can expect stiff
competition.
